The Orbit wouldn't have #The4thMovement without the many musics of South Africa that inspired what we have now come to know as jazz.
Jonas Gwangwa at one time was asked: “Why if you people are suffering so much does marabi music sound so happy?”
He replied: “It may sound happy but, if you listen carefully enough, you hear the cry.”
The true Marabi has never been about a limited chord structure. It has been about a unique blend and texture of life-affirming sound that endures “nomakanjani”. It is the music that brings the traveller home, to claim a special space for part of who we are.
So, make sure your shoes are dance friendly and come and celebrate the feeling at #The4thMovement on Friday, 16 March!
